| Could be that your on/off points are not set up well enough to keep your engine cool at certain conditions. I have a 18" electric fan from a Lincoln MK8 that is capable of moving (ive read) 4000 CFM. It fit the radiator nearly perfectly (had to be trimmed a tiny bit in the corners, and shortened an inch or so). Since e-fan's start up is such a high current draw, I built a circuit to control the fan based off temperature with a soft start and damped ramp rate (similar to PID controls). I haven't had a problem with it, and ambient temps break 100 here during the summer. I imagine this is more efficient than the mechanical fan, and I cant imagine the mechanical fan moves that much air, especially at lower RPM's.
